Cats on a Boat need your help!
8/11/24 - Per animal advocate Lisa Kirk "I'm currently assisting a very complicated situation regarding cats and kittens on a boat out in Bethel Island, 22 cats housed in a small cabin. In June I called the sheriff's dispatch and asked for an animal control officer from Contra Costa County to come out and help evaluate the situation. I was given an activity number A24100895. First I told through a phone conversation by a Animal Control officer that these animals were owned pets and the owner would have to fill out a owner surrender form.. I was asking a officer to come out and assess the environment that they were living in so that they can be returned, 3 weeks ago I called the sheriff dispatch and reactivated the activity number and requested an officer evaluated the condition of the cabin and ask that I be called contacted at the time of the visit. Two weeks ago an officer went to the site and spoke to the caregiver. The email I received from the supervisor stated they tried to call me at the time of the visit. There was no message left on my voicemail. Animal services is stating that there are "dock Cats" and just return them outside. The caregiver has stated to me that he does not let the cats outside the cabin because of the numerous dogs that live at the marina, nor have this cats ever been outside the boat. The animal control officer DID NOT even go to the boat where the cats are located.. Below is a photo of the stern of the boat.Thr conditions inside the boat are worse and need to be evaluated. I have sent a fourth email asking for an officer to actually investigate the condition and work with the caregiver . I am asking all of you to contact Ben Winkleblack the new CCAS director.at 925-608-8472 Ben.Winkleblack@asd.cccounty.us and request an officer to investigate the condition of the site that the cats live in and to provided services. to the caregiver such as spay and neuters Please refer to the activity A24100895."
